Among the rulers who have made Maharashtra proud, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj undoubtedly ranks at the top. He was not only a great warrior but an efficient administrator as well. It was during his era that art and architecture flourished, culture blossomed, the economy prospered and patriotism reached its pinnacle.

The life and times of Shivaji are interesting indeed, which have been vividly recreated at a place called Shiv Shrushti near Akluj. A dilapidated fort built during the Yadav regime, which was largely neglected, was restored in the

year 1975 at the behest of Jaysinh Mohite-Patil, then sarpanch of Akluj. And thanks to his initiative, the old fort is today home to Shiv Shruti. And also thanks to Mr. Vijaysinh Mohite-Patil, who is the Cabinet Minister for Rural Development or Tourism for his great help to create a Shiv Srushti. Incumbent sarpanch see Mr. Sangramsinh Mohite-Patil, looks after the today management of Shiv Srushti. At Shiv Shrushti, one gets a peek into the golden era of Shivaji through a series of wonderful sculptures, statues and murals.

These exquisitely crafted sculptures tell an awe-inspiring story of bravery, sacrifice, efficiency and patriotism. All major events in the regime of Shivaji are vibrantly depicted, including his birth, his training, his several conquests and eventually his coronation. Shiv Shrushti is a creative tribute to the great warrior king that leaves the young and the old alike spellbound from start to end.
